Daily Skin Care Routine

Facial Cleansers:  Get any hair away from your face and wash your hands. Splash warm (not hot) water over your face many times, rinsing away any surface dust and grime. Pour your cleanser, generally a lotion, into the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together just a bit to emulsify the product, and smooth the product over your face. Gently move the cleanser around for approximately two to three minutes. Splash with warm water enough times to rinse off the cleanser. Blot dry gently with a clean facecloth or with a facial tissue.

Toners: After your skin has been cleansed and gently blotted dry with a facial tissue or a soft towel, apply a toner to remove any remaining dirt or cleanser. This brings the skin to the proper pH level (slightly acidic, like the skin’s acid mantle) and prepares the skin to accept a moisturizer.

Moisturizers: Apply a moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp. Your esthetician may tell you to avoid the nose or other areas. Be careful not to stretch the skin. Sometimes different moisturizers are needed around the eye area. Remember to include your neck.

Depending upon your skin type, you can gently exfoliate a few times a week. Emulsify a small amount of a scrub in the palm of your hand, then move it in small circular motions on your wet skin. Rinse it off before you moisturize. Liquid exfoliators such as glycolic or lactic acids are applied and wiped off using a tissue or some cottton.

Take care of the skin on your entire body by gently exfoliating with a loofah or scrub mitten. After cleansing and with the skin still slightly damp, apply oils, creams, or lotions. Always use a sunscreen for any exposed areas of the skin.

Get professional advice from an esthetician to learn the best way to take care of your skin.
